After a wonderful indigestion of Umbria's history, Linda and I joined our friends Andrea, Lucilla e Sebastiano for a week of dolce far niente on the beaches of Isola d'Elba. We stayed at Le Sughere, a cozy agriturismo above Rio Marina where we were treated to wine tasting, a gourmet dinner, and wonderful breakfasts. We spent a lot of time reading and chatting by the pool, playing in the water, exploring a few of the numerous beaches and villages on the island, dining on local fish and seafood, hiking down monte Fico and zooming along the coast on a zodiac. We found the campground and beach of my teen years and suffered on those same sharp rocks from where we once dived (now more cautiously down-climbed) into the water. Wonderful week, gorgeous island; we had a blast and are looking forward to going back.
