In preparation for shaping the handles of the 18th-century carpenter’s tool chest, I decided to take the time to make a template out of a strip of Basswood; I played around a little bit with a set of French curves, drawing directly on the Basswood and then I just used a chisel and a sandpaper block to work my way down to the pencil line. #ToolChest #WhitePine #Pine #HandToolsOnly #Woodworking
I thought this curved style of handle with a Manila rope grommet would look nice on the 18th-century carpenter’s tool chest, particularly when it reaches all the way down to the skirt and up under the lid. I am a bit afraid of wood movement so I have not yet decided how to attach them and will wait until the lid is ready to set the exact height of the handle. #ToolChest #WhitePine #Pine #HandToolsOnly #Woodworking
The panels for the lid of the carpenter’s tool chest are in the clamps. The glue-up gave me a hard time; as soon as I started tightening the clamps, the panels started sliding all over the place and in the end I was not able to line up the references faces as well as during the dry-run; I will have more planing to do, but hope the glue line will be nice and tight anyway. #ToolChest #HandToolsOnly #WhitePine #Pine #Woodworking
