It is finally time to glue up the carcass of the carpenter’s tool chest. I started by glueing up the internal tray, using a 4-way clamp to hold it together; then I prepared a couple of cauls with notches where the dovetail pins are so I could put pressure where it is needed even if the tails are a bit proud; I glued one end piece at a time; luckily, I did not forget to glue in the moulding planes rail at the same time as the second end piece. A word of warning: you can see a little gap at the tip of the pins in the detailed photo; that was left by my marking knife; I wanted to make sure I would see the mark and I was too heavy-handed :-( #ToolChest #CanaryWood #WhitePine #Pine #HandToolsOnly #Woodworking
Just finished the first set of dovetails on the bottom skirt of the 18th-century carpenter’s tool chest. The tails on the skirt and carcass run in opposite directions. I left a fat pin at the top of the skirt to make it easier to plane a decorative quarter round and rabbet at the top of the skirt once the joinery is done. #ToolChest #CanaryWood #WhitePine #Pine #HandToolsOnly #Woodworking
