The 18th-century carpenter tool chest needed a lid stay, but I felt the Brass chain type did not fit the strap hinges, so I started thinking of using rope or leather. Linda generously offered the first leather belt she ever made, complete with nice decorative stamps and after the initial fear of destroying that first piece of artwork, I fell in love with the idea of integrating it into my chest; I’ll think of her every time I open it. #ToolChest #HandToolsOnly #WhitePine #Pine #CanaryWood #Woodworking
Making grommets of Manila rope was a bit tricky; in retrospective, I should have wrapped the ends in tape to make them easier to thread through the coils. I was planning to hide the bulkier part of the grommet inside the hole in the wooden handles, but the hole proved a bit too tight for that. In any case, I am fairly happy with the result and the rustic look and am ready to declare the project complete :-) #ToolChest #HandToolsOnly #WhitePine #Pine #CanaryWood #Woodworking
