Just finished the first set of dovetails on the bottom skirt of the 18th-century carpenter’s tool chest. The tails on the skirt and carcass run in opposite directions. I left a fat pin at the top of the skirt to make it easier to plane a decorative quarter round and rabbet at the top of the skirt once the joinery is done. #ToolChest #CanaryWood #WhitePine #Pine #HandToolsOnly #Woodworking
The joinery for the bottom skirt of the 18th-century carpenter’s tool chest is ready. The fit is good and tight around the carcass; I am happy. #ToolChest #CanaryWood #WhitePine #Pine #HandToolsOnly #Woodworking
I put a rabbet and quarter round on the top of the skirt of the carpenter’s tool chest. I started planing a rabbet with a plow plane, then marked the quarter round in pencil and used a shoulder plane to take off the corner at 45°; that left me with three flat faces; then I planed the edges between the faces trying to created five smaller faces of about equal width; finally I took a few more shavings trying to round everything up. I will smooth it some more with some sandpaper once the skirt is attached to the chest. #ToolChest #CanaryWood #WhitePine #Pine #HandToolsOnly #Woodworking
