The beautiful Dutch tool chest is no longer beautiful! Although I have a pronounced aversion to painting wood, I decided for this project I would go with a traditional milk paint finish. The sequence shows the effect after one, two, and three coats a Federal Blue from The Old Fashioned Milk Paint Co. I had a really hard time getting the first two coats on and had to add more water to my mix regularly. Given the advertised coverage, one quart was supposed to be plenty for three coats, but I barely managed to finish the second coat; then I had to stop everything waiting for UPS to deliver a second helping. The third coat went on easier; mixing a bigger quantity helped avoid dry flakes and I also loaded the brush quite a bit more than before. The color got a bit darker after every coat, but still lighter than I was hoping. We’ll see how it looks after I get some oil on it. #DutchToolChest #ToolChest #HandToolsOnly #MilkPaint
Drilling 5/32” tapered pilot holes for these huge blued steel diamond-head forged nails I am going to use to secure the ship-lapped back of the Dutch tool chest. #DutchToolChest #ToolChest #HandToolsOnly #Woodworking
