The top boards of #TheEnglishWorkbench are spaced about 1/8” apart. I wanted to put a small bevel on the edges of those boards, but knew that going free-hand with a chisel would not be great and would risk damaging the adjacent board; so, I thought a shoulder plane might work well; held at 45°, leaning against the edge of the adjacent board, it did a fantastic job and it was super easy and no stress. #handtoolsonly #workbench #woodworking
The vise of #TheEnglishWorkbench uses a drawbored, through, double mortise-and-tenon joint to attach the chop to the sliding guide. Here I am boring a 3/8” hole through the chop and I jammed the mortise with a scrap piece to avoid splinters on the exit side of the auger bit. After that, I bored a corresponding hole through the double tenon of the vise guide with a 3/32” offset. I have never done any drawboring before so I hope I will be able to hammer my dowel through the joint! #handtoolsonly #workbench #woodworking
I did not trust the soft pine apron of #TheEnglishWorkbench with the vise nut, so I decided to make a housing for it using a piece of 8/4 cherry. #handtoolsonly #workbench #woodworking
